MITERA: One-Day Event on Cancer Immunotherapy
Friday 22 February 2019
All the latest developments in cancer immunotherapy and personalized treatment for cancer patients will be discussed at the upcoming scientific event hosted by the MITERA Oncology Clinic. The event will be held at the N. Louros Conference Center, MITERA Hospital, on Friday 22 February 2019.
In the last years, immunotherapy has been heralded as the new pillar in cancer treatment, along with surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and targeted treatments. Currently, cancers where immunotherapy is effective definitely demonstrate better clinical progress, while in some diagnoses, immunotherapy is the first-line treatment for non-metastatic disease.
As noted by the Organizing Committee Chairwoman & Associate Director of the MITERA Oncology Clinic, Ms Manto Nikolaidi, “Progress throughout every step we make in Oncology is achieved by surpassing obstacles. Therefore, we must successfully manage the new adverse reactions arising from the administration of an innovative and successful treatment such as immunotherapy. Detecting them early and treating them immediately and effectively allow us to continue with this very promising treatment unobstructed. Our scientific event is addressed to doctors of all medical specialties, but also to members of the general public who may be interested in the newest developments in oncology.”
On his part, the Director of the MITERA Oncology Clinic, Mr Ilias Athanasiadis, Medical Oncologist, stated, “Immunotherapy has incited a revolution, that’s still underway. The results are amazing in scientific terms, so we can be justified in talking about unprecedented responses, increase in overall survival, better quality of life, as well as transformation of rapidly evolving cancers into chronic diseases. Meanwhile, the tremendous change in the biological progression of certain diseases in some patients, such as melanoma and non-small cell lung cancer, has given rise to hopes of expanding the application of immunotherapy to include resilient tumors. However, this very promising treatment requires cooperation among many medical specialties in a single team, so as to achieve the desired results.”
