MITERA Children’s Hospital: Pediatric Postgraduate Event
All the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of various pediatric conditions will be discussed during the Pediatric Postgraduate Event, organized for the 13th year running by MITERA Children’s Hospital, a member of HYGEIA Group. The event will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Aigli Zappeiou (Olympia room).
The annual postgraduate event is being organized by Mrs Evangelia Lagona, Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Athens and MITERA Children’s Hospital Scientific Director, and her associates. The speakers will include pediatricians and other specialists with deep knowledge and extensive experience in their fields of expertise.
The event is open to the public and aims to raise awareness on significant and interesting pediatric issues, based on recent literature. The topics discussed will include the latest developments in investigating and treating pediatric urinary tract infections (UTIs), which are the most common bacterial infections encountered in infancy and early childhood. Febrile UTIs, especially in younger children, often hide anatomical anomalies of the urinary tract. The discussion will also focus on staph infections of the skin, which make up over 85% of infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus in children, and the importance of following proper hygiene rules to prevent the spread of these infections.
Another interesting topic that will be discussed extensively is that of childhood obesity, focusing on prevention. Obesity is a global disease, which has taken on epidemic proportions in the last few years, posing a threat to public health. The establishment of a one-of-a-kind for Greece interventional interactive program for childhood obesity, catering for children and parents, will also be announced during the event. The program has been set up by the MITERA Children’s Hospital Pediatric Endocrinology Department and aims to treat, and mainly to prevent, the multifactorial phenomenon of obesity.
