MITERA: Certified as a Baby-Friendly Hospital by UNICEF
In accordance with a relevant Ministry of Health decision, MITERA has been certified as a Baby-Friendly Hospital, since it implements the practices required by UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) with regard to breastfeeding.
During a special ceremony held on Friday October 31, 2014 at the N. Louros Conference Center, located within MITERA Hospital, the President of UNICEF Greece, Mr Lampros Kanellopoulos, presented to the Vice-Chairman of the Board, Mr Georgios Politis, Pablo Picasso’s Maternity. This work of art is a symbol awarded to Baby-Friendly Hospitals worldwide.
The distinguished guests included the Deputy Minister of Health, Ms Aikaterini Papakosta; the Mayor of Maroussi, Mr Georgios Patoulis; the General Manager of UNICEF Greece, Mr Ilias Lymperis; members of the National Breastfeeding Committee; the Head of the “Alkioni” national initiative for promoting breastfeeding, Ms Ioanna Antoniadou-Koumatou, and other members.
MITERA Hospital’s CEO, Mr Andreas Kartapanis, noted, “Dedicated to offering top-level maternity services, with a deep sense of respect for mothers and babies, MITERA implements all the global criteria of the BFHI, which are included in its Written Breastfeeding Policy and are applied by its fully trained staff. Assisted by the nursing and medical staff and all our employees, we are continuing our major efforts, with the ultimate aim being to offer the best possible support to mothers and children.”
