Ms Maria Karantza-Charoni Receives Excellent Woman 2016 Award

Ms Maria Karantza-Charoni, MD, FAAP, Pediatrician/Endocrinologist and Director of the MITERA Children’s Hospital Department of Pediatric Endocrinology, Obesity & Weight Control for Children/Adolescents, has been honored for her contribution to pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology.

Ms Karantza received the Excellent Woman 2016 Award by the Kifissia-Politeia Rotary Club during a special event organized to this effect. The Excellent Woman awards have become an institution over the last few years, honoring women who have excelled in their professional and social lives.

Ms Maria Karantza-Charoni has been heading the MITERA Children’s Hospital Department of Pediatric Endocrinology, Obesity & Weight Control for Children/Adolescents for the last five years. She specialized in Pediatrics at the University of Nevada and in Pediatric Endocrinology at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine.

The Department treats all endocrinology conditions, such as developmental and thyroid gland problems, pubescence disorders (delayed adolescence, early puberty, menstrual disorders, etc), adrenal gland conditions, carbohydrate metabolism disorders (diabetes mellitus, hypoglycemia, metabolic diseases), the multifaceted issue of obesity, as well as eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa).

The Department of Pediatric Endocrinology, Obesity & Weight Control for Children/Adolescents is assisted by a qualified scientific team made up of a pediatric endocrinologist/diabetes specialist, pediatric gastroenterologist/liver specialist, pediatricians, dietitian/nutritionist, child psychologist and diabetes trainer.
